Independent Journalist Dahr Jamail

Exclusive Interview with Independent Journalist Dahr Jamail

On Friday October 19th, 2007, Rochester Against War (with many cosponsors (see below) held a special event featuring a very special journalist. Dahr Jamail remained "unembedded", that is, outside the control of the US military and their censors for the duration of 4 trips to Iraq.

Brian Lenzo from Rochester Against War and Jeff Detoro from the International Socialist Organization caught up with Dahr before his event and asked him a few questions about his travels and the future of the US antiwar movement. Below is the approx 23 min recorded discussion, in full or broken into two parts. (sorry for those of you on dialup, it will take a while)

BEYOND THE GREEN ZONE
Unembedded Iraq Journalist and Author Dahr Jamail came to Rochester Oct. 19
followed by a Q+A and book signing

School Without Walls on 480 Broadway, Rochester, NY

In his book Jamail:
-- A forward by Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman -- exposes the humanitarian crisis developing in Iraq, from attacks on hospitals and the lack of electricity and running water to the growing refugee crisis and skyrocketing rate of unemployment.
-- uncovers some of the major events of the occupation, such as the siege of Fallujah and its underreported details, including strikes on civilians, the use of chemical weapons, and the targeting of ambulances.
-- features the voices of Iraqi civilians, giving readers unfiltered access to stories of life under occupation
-- discusses the contradictions between mainstream media reportage and the facts on the ground
